When I read in InStyle's September Issue that Kerry Washington's favorite pair of shoes are her all-white Fenty by Rihanna Creepers, I thought to myself "I want those!" The truth is I had my eye on them for awhile, having seen them on the likes of Lena Dunham, Cara Delivigne and other cool kids I want to be like when I grow up. But how does a 33 year old adult wear such things without looking like I am desperately clutching onto my misspent youth?

"Well if Olivia Pope can wear them so can I", I thought to myself.

I triumphantly tracked down a pair. They are a hot commodity.  But when they arrived, and I gazed in adoration at their thick, crimped sole, glossy coat and fat tongued glory, I understood instantly the appeal. Well done, RiRi.

I was also surprised to find that I agreed with the articles I had read calling these "high fashion" - there was something elevated (ba dum cha) about the style that made me feel like I could wear them with a skinny jean or athleisure inspired dress and have a look. And that look was not "wannabe 90s club kid" thank goodness.

For their inaugural trip into the world I was about 10 minutes from needing a hair wash, so I made a slicked back bun, threw on my old sweatshirt dress (old navy circa 2009, what?!?) and a handful of colorful chokers (matte seed bead necklaces from etsy are a steal at $10 a pop, and add volume to my beloved Roxanne Assoulin Maritime enamel choker in Dive In) and then grabbed my old zippered pouch and hit the road. Obviously, I stopped to take some pictures first.

I felt so cool.

PS: Despite their sturdy appearance, the shoes were light and comfortable - just in case you were worried. Also, according to reviews they run small, so take a half to a full size up.
