But last night I went out in public for the first time with my wig... AND no one could tell. Then I took a shower, IN MY WIG. Then I went to bed, and SLEPT IN IT. And then this morning I put it up in a high ponytail.
That's right, a wig in a high ponytail. I'm not sure how to express how good it feels, even for a just a few minutes, to get to be normal. To not feel like a sick person.
So sorry for gushing but please consider this yet another thank you note to the generosity of the people who helped me fundraise for this amazing, special head covering and also, for any of you out there who might be going through something similar, seriously give Sheila a call. #cancercanttouchme

Dena - I just found your blog through Tartans & Sequins and just wanted to say that I'm thinking of you and pulling for you! You sound like such a strong, amazing woman and don't ever underestimate how powerful your positivity can be on your healing. You are so beautiful, wig or no wig (but that wig does sound pretty amazing!), and I'll be reading along and can't wait to read the post when you announce that you're cured. I know you'll be an inspiration and source of encouragement to so many along the way. Now go kick cancer's a$$.

Where did you get your wig? I am 36 year old mama with HERS 2 + cancer in both breasts with BRCA 1+. I have done 6 rounds of bad chemo (which tortured my body also) and last week had a double mastectomy, reconstruction and hysterectomy all in 1 surgery. I am writing you because - I cannot find a wig I love... I have 4 but they make me look older. I am all about going bald and looking good through cancer because I have 2 little kids at home. You know you have to fake it to make it! But... I would love one fabulous wig. Btw... Love ur blog - I never read the Internet and only spoke to positive people through this process! I needed the positive through my journey like your blog inspires. Also great job encouraging young women on self breast exams!!! I discovered my cancer while breastfeeding my baby and had to fight for my diagnosis. Thanks for your positive spirit and pics of hair growth!

Thank you for sharing your story with me! Here's what I can tell you about finding a good wig. Ultimately I was not able too wear mine, so I am probably the least useful resource for this, BUT from all the people I have talked to I would recommend either a lace top wig or a silicone top wig. For a good lace top wig you'll want to know that with how fragile the top is, it will only last you about 6 months (so price accordingly) and for the silicone wigs (favored by Hasidic women) you want to be fitted properly. In fact, my recommendation would be to go to some places and do fittings - figure out what's comfortable, in your price range and worth it to you. I ended up not wearing a wig for very long and it was hard, but the hair grows back so quickly. Also, when else in your life will you walk around bald? There were times it was almost fun! I wish I could be more helpful or have more to offer. Sending lots of love and positive energy to you and your beautiful family!
